The Ultimate Guide to the 2018 Waterbury Arts Fest

We’re counting down the days to the Waterbury Arts Fest and this year’s event is shaping up to be one of the best yet. The annual Block Party kicks things off Friday night, and you can expect a rocking evening thanks to The Grift and Josh Panda, and Red Hot Juba. Come hungry, too – Skinny Pancake, Blue Stone Pizza, Wicked Good Fries, Cornerstone Pub & Kitchen, and Ben & Jerry’s will be on hand with good eats so you can fuel your body before dancing the night away.

The fun continues on Saturday, with the Art’s Fest featuring 100 artisans and vendors joining us from all over the state. From pottery and jewelry to fine art and woodworking, there’s something for everyone. Here’s the rundown for the weekend’s festivities –

Friday, July 13

The Block Party will feature a Beer Garden thanks to our friends at The Reservoir Restaurant, food trucks serving up tasty belly-filling food, and great live music for you to dance the night away. Be sure to purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win a Beer-Lover’s Experience Package chock-full-of beer swag and two tickets to SIPtemberfest, and more!  All proceeds support Revitalizing Waterbury. Donations welcome. 

Friday’s event is brought to you in part by Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. Our stage and entertainment sponsor is Ben & Jerry’s, and our Friday Night Block Party Sponsor is Prohibition Pig.

Schedule:

5:30 pm – Gates open, Beer Garden & Food Trucks open – cash only. Please bring your ID for the Beer Garden. Children must be supervised. 

6-7:30 pm – Live Music Starts with Red Hot Juba! The soul of the blues, the infectious twang of juke-joint country, a touch of irreverent old-testament and SWING with relentless abandon. These guys really know how to get a party going so don’t arrive late! RHJ is comprised of Bryan Aubin on Drums, Horns & Vocals,  D. Davis – on Guitars, Mandolin, Vocals, Eric Krull on Guitars, Vocals & Steve Goldman on Upright Bass, Piano, Vocals.

8:00 pm – The Grift + Josh Panda  – The Grift joins forces again this year with the one and only Josh Panda for a night of wild, dance-til-you-drop music!  Based in Burlington, Vermont, the Grift is one of the area’s hottest bands, known for their vast range of music that blends roots-rock and pop and jam. With the addition of Josh Panda to the mix, the night is sure to be chock-full of booty-shaking grooves, witty lyrics, and tight vocal harmonies.  

8:45 pm or so – Set Break & Raffle Drawing. Don't forget to purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win the Beer-Lover’s Experience Package.

9:30 – Last Call

10:00 pm – Event over, gates CLOSE! You don’t have to go home, but we will be buttoning up shop and prepping for Saturday’s events so you won’t be able to stay here. But please check out the food and festivities at Waterbury’s local bars & restaurants.

Beer Garden:
The Waterbury Reservoir brings their bar across the street serving beer and wine under our tents.  Bar open from 5:30-9:30 pm. Cash only. You must have an ID to get a wristband for purchasing.   

Hydration Lounge:
Stay hydrated throughout the evening at the Clearwater Filtration WaterBar.

Saturday, July 14

For one day each year, in the heart of summer, the streets of historic downtown Waterbury are lined with the colors, textures, and inspirations of Vermont-made artwork. Brought to you in part by Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and VSECU, the 2018 Waterbury Arts Fest promises to be our best lineup ever of entertainment, food vendors, and of course artists!  Join us on Saturday, July 14 from 10 AM to 4 PM on Stowe Street and Bidwell Lane for our annual celebration of the creativity, artistry, and community of Waterbury, Vermont. 

The event is free for all ages, but please leave dogs at home (hot pavement is ruff on the pups!).

 
The Entertainment Schedule

From 10 am to 4 pm, the Waterbury Arts Fest will have a packed schedule of entertainment that will take place on our Stage at the corner of Stowe Street and Bidwell Lane. Our Stage & Entertainment Sponsor is Ben & Jerry’s.

10:20 am Cooie Sings Solo singer/songwriter, Cooie is a self-described songbird who brings lyrics to life. We are excited to have her back.

11:30 am Joe Adler Burlington, Vermont based singer/songwriter Joe Adler draws on influences that range from the blues, folk, and experimental tendencies of Tom Waits, to the poetic leanings of Leonard Cohen.

12:40 pm Hot Box Honey Vocalist Jane Evans and guitarist Gregory Evans heats up the Vermont music scene as Hot Box Honey. Showcasing an upbeat, eclectic mix of Latin, funk, reggae, swing, pop and soul hits, the music of Hot Box Honey keeps the party happy.

1:50 pm Papa’s Porch String Band Out of Burlington, VT, this young bluegrass band picks quick, sings sweet and keeps the energy high.

3:00 pm Green Mountain Performing Arts Heather Morris brings her Celtic Dancers back to the Waterbury Arts Fest once again! A crowd favorite, local youth dancers performing Scottish Highland dances, Scottish (Cape Breton) Step and more. You’ll want to see these incredibly talented dancers with your own eyes!

 

The Artists

The Waterbury Arts Fest is proud to feature some of Vermont’s most talented artists! This year, on Saturday, July 14, Stowe Street and Bidwell Lane will again be fully lined with incredible artwork from our best lineup of artists ever. Be sure walk the whole event because you won’t want to miss a thing. Our Saturday Arts Fest Sponsor is VSECU.

The Food

The food at the Waterbury Arts Fest is locally made and absolutely delicious. Each year we try to bring a variety of flavors to the table and this year will be no exception! We will be adding more food vendors too so stay tuned.

Ben & Jerry’s – Our area’s most famous and most delicious ice cream!

Blue Stone Pizza – Located right on Stowe Street, Blue Stone will be open for slices and more

Green Mountain Coffee – Swing by their booth near the stage to get your caffeine fix. 

Hydration Station– Don’t forget to hydrate! Head to the Stowe Street Emporium & RW booths for some refreshing water – it’s hot on the pavement so be sure to hydrate! Please help us reduce waste and bring a water bottle. Sponsored by Clearwater Filtration.

Mediterranean Mix – Serving up greek and Mediterranean, vegan and vegetarian meals.

Pioneer Food Truck – Vermont ingredients with worldly inspiration, get Vermont beef burgers with kimchi and bacon, or a spicy, cilantro-laced minced alpaca-meat salad, or  Vietnamese-style bbq with rice and green papaya.

Taco Truck All-Stars – Taking tacos to the next level, they offer a wide selection of options, including vegetarian offerings.

Wicked Good Fries – Need we say more? If you’re looking for an awesome salty snack, this is the stop for you.
